In November 2020 we marked our second visit to “Irish Hollow” in Galena, Illinois. Our first trip was for Trey’s 40th birthday in March of 2012 and we knew we had to return. To say Irish Hollow is a Bed & Breakfast is akin to saying the Louvre is a museum. Irish Hollow is five individual luxury cottages clustered on a 500 acre working farm along with an Inn hosting private suites. The cottages are exquisite and feature wood burning fire places, gorgeous bathrooms, lavish furnishings and sumptuous linens. The food is mostly (if not all) organic, grown in their gardens and on surrounding farms. It is stunningly delicious. This is a special occasion, quintessential couple’s getaway and is perfect for reconnecting with your love and disconnecting from the rest of the world. Highly recommended.
One thing to keep in mind when visiting is that there is so…much…food! For weekend bookings, dinners are included as well as breakfast. They serve a multi-course dinner one night and a “simple supper” another night. There is nothing simple about this food. They also provide bottles of wine with each meal. Despite our best efforts we brought a bottle of wine home to enjoy later. Trey also surprised me with a flourless chocolate cake and a lovely charcuterie board upon arrival. We nibbled on both but could not finish either with all of the other delicious bites.
In order to try to walk off some of the calories from the wonderful meals, we did some walking around the grounds. There are several trails to follow. They also have several private fire pit areas that you can reserve. They will set it up with fire materials and even s’mores.

I cannot say enough about the Inn at Irish Hollow. If you need a place to fully unwind, unplug and relax this is your place!
