We traveled to Sundara in October of 2022 for a long weekend getaway. We were a little hesitant about the Sundara as visiting “The Dells” does not automatically evoke thoughts of plush robes, pampering spa treatments, and luxurious accommodations. But this destination oasis in the middle of gigantic water park country changed our minds as soon as we arrived. Sundara’s mission is wellness and they aim to provide a sanctuary from stress and a healing touch. “Sundara” is Sanskrit for beautiful and our stay proved to be just that.
Over the course of the weekend we explored the gorgeous property, dipping in multiple pools and hot tubs, and enjoying drinks at the swim up bar. As they have a no cell phone policy, I didn’t get any photos of the public spaces.
We spent most of our visit hanging in our room. We booked a Woodland Retreat room. It was huge and equipped with a large deck and outdoor jacuzzi. We enjoyed the view from our deck and even watched a fawn sleeping in the grass.
The bathrobes are so integrated that guests are encouraged to wear them to dine in the on-site restaurant. We did not take advantage of this unique opportunity but instead chose to order room service. It was quite good.
We would definitely consider a return to Sundara. It was a relaxing, rejuvenating getaway.
Side note, a stop in Madison, Wisconsin at Paul’s Pelmeni is not to be missed. Pelmeni are Russian dumplings stuffed with meat or potatoes, topped with butter, sour cream and cilantro, with a slice of rye bread and options of soy sauce, vinegar and/or chili sauce. They are delish.
