We stood outside looking in. The door would not open. The waiter looked out at us. We tried it several times. We knocked lightly. The door was locked. We stood there for what felt like forever. We started to get mad. We had a reservation. How could they lock us out and just stand there and stare at us, in the rain no less? I called to explain we had a reservation. The woman who answered the phone said … “Push” as she looked at us through the window. I’m still giggling as I type this. Wow did we feel like dumb Americans! The evening improved significantly from there.
For entrees we both had crab soup with a poached egg, mushrooms and tiny croutons. There were no pieces of crab in the soup but each bite was full of rich crab flavor.
For plats, Trey had saucisson (sausage) and mashed potatoes. I had roasted pork with gnocchi and delicious, tiny mushrooms.
We had another great bottle of wine.
We also shared the cheese plate which included a comté, another ewe cheese, and a third that I can’t remember. We are digging the cheese courses.
The dessert, a pizzlova, is an invention of the restaurant. It is like the famous pavlova, only the meringue was flat like a pizza rather than a shell to be filled. The light crispy meringue was topped with chantilly cream, “red fruits” (raspberries, strawberries, and red currants), and fresh mint. It was light and delicious. We shared it. With every bite I wished I had my own.
Funny story you’ll always remember. Food looks amazing. I’m guessing you can replicate some of it when you get home.
Reminds me of a certain “The Far Side” cartoon 😂 Looks delicious
